This work presents modeling and results obtained during direct and quadrature axis reactances and stator resistance testing of a small rating axial flux permanent magnet synchronous machine through a non conventional way including acquisition of its load angle in order to face the impossibility of field flux excitation adjustments normally applied during load rejection tests on large rating synchronous machines. The same type of testing was applied to a conventional synchronous generator in order to confirm the general characteristic of the method and to point out the difficulties that occurred during the permanent magnet machine extraction data process.
