This work presents the use of metaheuristic techniques for solving optimization problems, specifically in the container loading problem. It develops a genetic algorithm to solve the container loading problem, using some real features of a container loading problem as well as real cargo data from an electronics factory. The algorithm that is developed uses two kinds of loading models. Tests are performed with various available cargo data, confirming conclusions that are presented in this work.
