This work implements an automatic tuning method for PID controllers in a Programmable Logic Controller in order to identify processes in oil production plants and tuning the control loops, in an automatic, real-time and on demand way. The relay oscillation technique is studied and simulations to identify processes are performed. Simple tuning rules, such as Ziegler-Nichols, or KT from Astrom-Hagglund, adequate for Programmable Logic Controller implementation were selected. A Graphical User Interface in a supervisory software is developed. Finally, the automatic tuning and identifying algorithms are implemented and the laboratory tests are performed.
